ΠεριγραφήΗ οινοχόη είναι τριφυλλόστομη (με στόμιο σε σχήμα τριφυλλιού) και έχει κόσμημα με οφθαλμούς στο χείλος, το οποίο έδινε στον λαιμό τη μορφή κεφαλής πτηνού. Το σώμα διακοσμείται με σχηματοποιημένα φυτικά κοσμήματα. Το αγγείο ανήκει στη «Λευκή Γραπτή» τεχνική, που χαρακτηρίζεται από κοσμήματα μαύρου ή ερυθρού χρώματος σε λευκό βάθος.Geometric-Archaic Period
Description
ΠληροφορίεςThe trefoil-mouth jug has motifs in the form of eyes on the neck, which make it resembling the head of a bird. On the body, schematic floral motifs. It belongs to the "White Painted ware", a pottery style characterized by decoration with black or red paint on white ground.
Trefoil-mouthed jugs were very popular in early Iron Age Cyprus (1050-750 BC). Vases of this type with the “eye-motif” belong to either the “White Painted ware”, as the illustrated example, or the “Bichrome ware” (black and red decoration on white ground). The function of these vases is not certain. They may have been used as tableware for wine; because of their small size, however, it is possible that they contained only perfumed oils.
Objects Z0161, Z0201, Z0598A. Z0598B, Z0609 and Z0202 all form a homogenous group of six Cypro-Geometric III - Cypro-Archaic I so called 'eye-let' trefoil-mouthed jugs. All range between 12 and 20 cm in height and all have an eye motif painted on either side of their pinched mouths. They are made of fine greenish clay and decorated with black paint. Other painted designs include swastikas, stylized lotus flowers (a popular motif associated with renewal and creation), (sacred?) trees and four-petalled flowers. These jugs are comparable with 7th century BC jugs at Salamis.

Η τριφυλλόστομη οινοχόη είναι ένα από τα χαρακτηριστικότερα σχήματα της κυπριακής κεραμικής των πρώιμων ιστορικών χρόνων (1050-750 π.Χ.). Τα αγγεία της κατηγορίας αυτής με το οφθαλμωτό κόσμημα διακοσμούνται με τη «Λευκή Γραπτή», όπως το εικονιζόμενο παράδειγμα, ή τη «Δίχρωμη» τεχνική (μελανό και ερυθρό κόσμημα σε λευκό βάθος). Η χρήση των αγγείων αυτών δεν είναι εξακριβωμένη. Πιθανώς χρησίμευαν ως επιτραπέζια σκεύη για κρασί, δεν αποκλείεται όμως λόγω του μικρού τους μεγέθους να χρησίμευαν για την αποθήκευση αρωματικών ελαίων.
