ΠεριγραφήΤρία πτηνά στηρίζονται πάνω σε δακτυλιόσχημη βάση. Έχουν ψηλό λαιμό, ανοικτές φτερούγες και στρέφουν τα ράμφη τους στο κέντρο της σύνθεσης. Στο σώμα και στον λαιμό διακρίνεται διακόσμηση, που αποτελούνταν πιθανότατα από γραμμικά μοτίβα. Ίχνη γραπτής διακόσμησης διατηρούνται και στη βάση. Πρόκειται για χειροποίητη κατασκευή, προϊόν βοιωτικού εργαστηρίου. Archaic period
Description
Further InformationThree birds rest on a ring-shaped base. They have high necks, open wings and turn their beaks towards the centre of the composition. Decoration, probably of linear motifs, can be seen on the body and neck. Traces of painted decoration are also preserved on the base. It is a handmade artifact, the product of a Boeotian workshop.
The illustrated ring with the three birds belongs to the category of figurines, which is often found in Boeotia, both in cult places and in cemeteries. The birds might symbolize a group of deities or semi-divine figures associated with a local cult or with chthonic deities related to the afterlife. Perhaps they represent the Nymphs, the Hours or the Moirae (the Fates). Most of these objects date from the second half of the 6th c. BC, and the early 5th c. BC.
Ο εικονιζόμενος δακτύλιος με τα τρία πτηνά ανήκει στην κατηγορία ειδωλίων, που απαντά συχνά στη Βοιωτία, τόσο σε τόπους λατρείας όσο και σε νεκροταφεία. Τα πουλιά πιθανότατα συμβολίζουν μια ομάδα θεοτήτων ή ημιθεϊκών μορφών που συνδέονται με κάποια τοπική λατρεία ή με χθόνιες θεότητες που σχετίζονται με τη μεταθανάτια ζωή. Ίσως αποδίδουν Νύμφες, Ώρες ή Μοίρες. Τα περισσότερα από τα αντικείμενα αυτά χρονολογούνται στο β’ μισό του 6ου αι. π.Χ., και στις αρχές του 5ου αι. π.Χ.
