Description
Further InformationThe vase has a cylindrical body, with a spout at the mouth and one handle. Below the mouth are two horizontal lugs. The lower part of the vessel is made of clay and the upper part (mouth, handle and lugs) is made of stone.
It is a rare example, as it is made of two materials, clay and stone. Pots of the same type are usually made of stone. During the Neopalatial period (c. 1700-1450 BC), the carving of stone vases in Minoan Crete attains a unique perfection, with creations of exceptional technique and beauty.
